Who Wants a Stadium…?

So Michigan’s Pontiac Silverdome just sold to a Toronto developer for less than half of what we spent on our theater building.  80,000+ seats, 120 bathrooms, and oodles of parking.  Why do I keep thinking–humongous church plant!?

  1. What a cool idea! Too bad it would probably have to be in Michigan :)

Well, you know — An Opportunity Missed I suppose. Why not keep an eye out for a Mega Church like this in the future?

Nice idea in theory but typically time, energy and money spent on buildings is time, energy and money not spent on ministry.

I realize that the building can be part of the ministry (we do better at this than most) and I’m not suggesting that a church ought to have a crappy building (I’d be among the first to say we need to fix the bathrooms). The reality is though, that when money is tight the mortgage gets paid and the amount of money sent out of the organization is reduced.

We have all seen or been involved with churches that have great facilities and are dead.

Notwithstanding my above comment, I’d rather have a lousy bathroom and a vibrant church than vice versa.
